Ahead of the India-Pakistan Champions Trophy match on Sunday, NIT Srinagar has issued an advisory for its students and urged them to “take the sport as a game”. In a notice issued by the dean of students’ welfare, the administration has asked the students to not create any kind of indiscipline and remain in their allotted rooms during the match.
During Sunday’s match, the students have been directed to remain in their allotted rooms and not allow other students to enter their rooms and watch the match in groups, it said. The students have also been directed to avoid posting any material related to the match on social media platforms. Moreover, the students have been instructed not to step out of the hostel rooms during or after the match.
The notice further warned, “Any violation of indiscipline will be dealt with strictly under rules.”
Earlier in 2016, clashes broke out between outstation and local students at the campus following India’s defeat to the West Indies in the T-20 World Cup semi-final. The clashes snowballed into a major issue with non-local students demanding that the institute be shifted outside of Valley. It also led to a closure of the NIT for days.
