In a significant development, police have booked the father and grandfather of the juvenile implicated in the Pune Porsche crash incident, which took place on May 19, along with three others, in a separate case involving the abetment of a businessman’s son’s suicide, an official said on Thursday.

This action follows a complaint filed by D.S. Kature, a construction business owner in Pune’s Vadgaon Sheri area. Kature lodged the complaint against Vinay Kale, from whom his son, Shashikant Kature, had taken a loan for construction work.

After failing to repay the loan on time, Kale allegedly began adding compound interest to the principal amount and harassing Shashikant Kature. Fed up with the constant harassment, Shashikant Kature committed suicide in January, authorities said.

The case has been lodged against Kale under IPC sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 506 (criminal intimidation) at the Chandannagar police station in the city. Police sources confirmed that the family of the deceased has submitted an application alleging the involvement of the juvenile’s father and grandfather in the suicide case related to the Porsche car crash.

“During the investigation, the role of the juvenile’s father (a builder), grandfather, and three others cropped up in the suicide case. We have now added sections 420 (cheating) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC to the case,” said a police officer, without elaborating on their alleged involvement, as per PTI.

The juvenile’s grandfather is currently in judicial custody for allegedly kidnapping and wrongfully confining their family driver, who was pressured to tell the police he was driving during the fatal accident.

The 17-year-old accused’s father, real estate developer Vishal Agarwal, and his mother are in police custody in a case involving the juvenile’s blood sample swapping. The tragic incident in Kalyani Nagar led to the deaths of two IT professionals after the Porsche car, allegedly driven by the minor, collided with their two-wheeler.

Meanwhile, the teen’s grandfather approached the Bombay High Court on Thursday through his lawyer, Aashutosh Srivastava, with a writ petition claiming he was wrongfully detained and falsely implicated in the kidnapping and wrongful confinement of their family driver.

The petition stated that investigating authorities, based on mere allegations and a complaint submitted five days late, filed the case without following the proper procedure mandated under section 42A of the CrPC against the 77-year-old senior citizen.

The plea mentioned that after the driver was released around 11 pm on May 20 from the Yerawada police station following the investigation, he was received by the petitioner (the teen’s grandfather). Since the driver was frightened and devastated, and there was a risk to his life, both the driver and the petitioner mutually decided to go to the latter’s home, the plea said. It added that the petitioner assured the safety and protection of the driver and his family.

Describing the driver’s complaint as ‘concocted and bogus’ regarding his alleged abduction and wrongful confinement, the plea requested the High Court to direct the police to release the petitioner immediately and sought strict action against officers involved.
