Pune Police has suspended two officers associated with the Yerwada Police Station over their failure to perform their duties in the Pune Porsche crash case which killed two IT engineers on May 19. The police inspector and assistant police inspector have been suspended for dereliction of duty in the initial response to the crash case, The Indian Express reported.

Confirming the suspension, a senior police official said, “A police inspector and an assistant police inspector have been suspended pending inquiry for dereliction of duty.”

The probe has now been transferred to Pune Police’s Crime Branch. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has confirmed that the crash case has been transferred.

The investigation into a related case against the father of the juvenile and staff members at two Pune bars, where the juvenile was allegedly served alcohol before the accident, is already being handled by the Crime Branch.

Pune police suspends officers

The senior official of Pune Police said that Police Inspector Rahul Jagdale and Assistant Police Inspector Vishwanath Todkari mishandled the investigation and failed to promptly inform the wireless control room about the incident.

Earlier today, Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, in an interaction with the media, had hinted at punitive action against officials involved in the initial handling of the Porsche crash case. He stated that an internal inquiry conducted by an Assistant Commissioner of Police had preliminarily found ‘some negligence’ shown by the officers who were involved in the initial response to the case.

“There was some negligence by the officers concerned and appropriate action against that officer will be taken at the soonest,” Kumar had said.

As per Kumar, an FIR was filed against the minor boy at around 8 am on Sunday. For a medical examination, he was taken to Sassoon General hospital later. However, his blood samples were taken there at around 11 am. “There is a lapse in time of collection of blood samples. But our case under section 304 (culpable homicide) is not dependent on blood report. We have a water tight case that he (minor) was in full senses while committing the offence,” he added.
