At least five people have died after a two-room structure near Humayun’s Tomb in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area collapsed on Friday. The authorities fear that eight to nine people may be trapped beneath the debris, PTI reported. According to a Delhi Fire Services official, an emergency call reporting the collapse was received around 4:30 pm. Five fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the site.
At least 10 people were rushed to AIIMS and the hospital officials later confirmed the deaths. Police said the deceased included three women. The collapsed structure was part of the Dargah Sharif Patte Shah complex.

Humayun’s Tomb is a UNESCO Heritage site and attract many tourists across the year. Joint Commissioner of Police Sanjay Kumar Jain said the victims, who were visiting the Dargah Sharif Patte Shah for Friday prayers, had taken shelter inside a room due to rain when the incident occurred.
A rescue call was received at 3.55 pm and 10 to 12 people were pulled out from the debris. All victims were rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where five succumbed to injuries. The rescue operation has been completed, police confirmed and the area has been cordoned off.
Ratish Nanda, conservation architect at the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, clarified that the collapsed two-storey structure was attached to the boundary wall of Humayun’s Tomb complex and while some debris fell inside, the historic monument itself remained undamaged.
