Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind and vice president Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday attended Dussehra festivities at Delhi’s Ram Leela Maidan. Speaking at the occasion, PM Modi asked people to pledge a positive contribution towards the country till 2022. The prime minister also said that these festivals “are a medium of education and teach us unity. Though it has been thousands of years, but the tales of Lords Rama and Krishna enhance consciousness in our society.”
President Kovind also took the dais. Kovind said that Vijay Dashmi showcases the victory of morals and civil conduct. He added that “all should work towards growth and overall development of the society.” The President added that everyone should try to incorporate Lord Rama’s ideals in their lives. The three leaders arrived at the programme early. As seen in the footage, leaders also paid respects to Lord Rama and Lord Lakshmana. President, the Vice President and former Prime Minister Singh applied ’tilak’ on the foreheads of the Ramlila participants playing the roles of Rama, Laxmana and Hanuman. Later, PM Modi was seen firing arrows to set the effigies of Ravana, Meghnad and Kumbhakaran ablaze.
