PM Modi’s Pune visit cancelled: Amid incessant rains in the city, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Pune, to inaugurate a new line of Pune Metro along with other development works, was cancelled on Thursday.

According to sources in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), heavy rain forecast for the city was cited as the reason for the cancellation, Indian Express reported.

The city, which has been witnessing heavy rainfall since Wednesday, was all set to welcome PM Modi with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar making arrangements in SP college ground.

Pune and several other regions in Maharashtra, including Mumbai, have been lashed by heavy rains since Wednesday, throwing normal life out of gear.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune received more than 130 mm of rainfall on Wednesday and more rains are predicted on Thursday as well, IE reported.

The Pune district collector also ordered all the schools in the city to remain closed on Thursday amid heavy shower forecast.
