During a podcast conversation with Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath on “WTF is with Nikhil Kamath,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared an intriguing anecdote about his early days as Prime Minister in 2014. Modi recalled that world leaders made courtesy calls to congratulate him on assuming office, including Chinese President Xi Jinping. During their interaction, Xi expressed a desire to visit India and, specifically, Gujarat.

The Prime Minister explained that Xi’s interest in Gujarat stemmed from a historical connection to his own village in China. Xi informed Modi that the renowned Chinese philosopher and traveler Hiuen Tsang (Xuanzang), known for his extensive travels across India, had spent the longest part of his journey in Vadnagar, Modi’s birthplace. Upon returning to China, Hiuen Tsang settled in Xi’s village, creating a unique link between the two leaders’ hometowns.

Modi reflected on this shared historical connection with Xi Jinping, emphasising the enduring cultural ties between India and China. This story, he added, highlights the profound ways in which history and heritage can bridge modern relationships, fostering mutual respect and understanding between nations. The candid conversation provided a glimpse into Modi’s perspective on diplomacy rooted in shared cultural legacies.

Kamath released the trailer of the podcast on Thursday where the PM was seen emphasising on the need for capable and committed individuals to join politics, urging them to approach it as a mission rather than a pursuit of personal ambition.

While sharing the podcast trailer on X, Modi remarked, “I hope you find this as enjoyable as we did while creating it!”
