Addressing the nation on the 78th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed hope for an improvement in the situation in Bangladesh and voiced concerns about the safety of Hindus and other minority groups in the country.

PM Modi delivered his 11th consecutive address from the ramparts of the Red Fort after hoisting the tricolor.

In his address from the ramparts of the Red Fort, Modi said that India remains committed to supporting Bangladesh’s progress and development. “India always wants our neighbouring countries to march in the path of prosperity and peace. We are committed to peace,” he noted.

The Prime Minister expressed concern over recent events in Bangladesh, noting, “As a neighbouring country, India is concerned over happened in Bangladesh.”

“As a neighbouring country, I can understand the concern regarding whatever has happened in Bangladesh. I hope that the situation will improve at the earliest,” he added in his speech.

“We will continue to wish well for Bangladesh in its development journey,” he concluded.

This year’s Independence Day theme, ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047,’ highlights the government’s vision of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047.
