The government has taken a very strict decision as they’ve decided to close tourist destinations in Kashmir. There are a total of 87 tourist spots in Kashmir, out of which 48 have been closed. This decision comes to ensure the safety of the tourists, after the Pahalgam terror attack in the valley, where 26 civilians have reportedly been killed.
The Srinagar International Airport has also seen a significant decline in passenger traffic amid these crises. The tourism industry has taken a major hit economically because of the Pahalgam attack. The travel operators have reportedly said that 90% of their bookings have been cancelled.

Baisaran Meadows, a travel destination close to Pahalgam, was the target of the brutal attack on 29 April 2025, because it had no security cover. The isolated meadow, reached by foot or horseback, was not policed or paramilitarized at the time terrorists opened fire and killed 26 civilians at point-blank range.
The government acknowledged that Baisaran was opened to the public two months ahead of schedule without notifying security personnel, making it vulnerable. This lapse in security enabled the terrorists to take advantage as the area has no security, and it became an easy target.
