Former MP and BJD vice-president, Prasanna Acharya, suffered severe injuries after his car collided head-on with a truck in Odisha’s Sambalpur district early Friday morning, police said.
The accident took place around 1 am near Baladih in Rairakhol, while Acharya was en route from Bhubaneswar to Sambalpur. His vehicle collided head-on with an oxygen-laden tanker. Acharya and his Personal Security Officer (PSO) were hospitalised, with the driver sustaining minor injuries, according to police.

Sambalpur Superintendent of Police, Mukesh Bhamu, assured that both Acharya and his PSO were stable, with plans to airlift them to Bhubaneswar for advanced medical care.
Doctors reported injuries to Acharya’s head, nose, chin, and other parts of his body.
In the meantime, police have detained the truck driver for further interrogation.
