Nagpur Local Body Election Results 2025 LIVE: The Maharashtra local body election was conducted in two phases, with the first round of polling concluding on December 2 and the second phase held on December 20. The results will be declared today, December 21, after the counting of votes which began at 10 am.

During the first phase, elections were held for 264 municipal councils and nagar panchayats. The second phase covered polling in 24 municipal councils and nagar panchayats across the state, in addition to 154 wards spread across 76 other local bodies. Votes will be counted for a total of 246 municipal councils and 42 nagar panchayats.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and the Shiv Sena, headed by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, frequently campaigned against each other despite being alliance partners.
Not just this, BJP and the Shiv Sena of the ruling Mahayuti alliance have fielded candidates in several districts, including Sindhudurg, Satara, Dharashiv, Palghar and Thane. On the other hand, the two factions of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) – led by Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar – came together in Kolhapur. Some areas also saw the Congress aligning with the BJP.
The Election Commission said that the electoral rolls for these polls include a total of over one crore registered voters. This comprises 53.79 lakh men, 53.22 lakh women, and 775 transgender voters.
The Maharashtra State Election Commission said that polling for 29 Municipal Corporations, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), will be held on January 15, with vote counting scheduled for the following day.

"The people of Maharashtra have given BJP a thumping majority. In the municipal corporation elections, the BJP has won 125 to 130 bodies on its own, and the Mahayuti has won more than 215 out of 288 bodies. This shows that the people of Maharashtra are completely impressed with Prime Minister Modi's vision of a developed India and the roadmap for Maharashtra," said BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla.

"I congratulate our allies Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, whose parties have also performed very well. Our performance has matched that of the Assembly elections. I also congratulate Ravindra Chavan, under whose leadership these elections were successfully conducted. Former president Bawankule, cabinet colleagues, and party workers — all have worked extremely hard. The coordination between the organisation and the party was excellent, and that is why we achieved this victory," he added.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis thanked the people of the state on Sunday evening as the Mahayuti edged towards a sweeping win.
"I had already predicted that out of all the municipal council chairpersons elected, 75% would be from the Mahayuti, and the people have delivered exactly that verdict. It has also become clear that BJP is the number one party. So far, around 129 municipal council chairpersons have been elected from the BJP. Together, all three alliance parties account for 75% of the city council chairpersons," he said.

Nagpur Local Body Election 2025 Results Live Updates: Gadkari hails workers for 'overwhelming success' of BJP
Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday said the "overwhelming success" of the BJP in the Maharashtra local body polls was a "victory of the (party) workers". He also hailed BJP state chief Ravindra Chavan and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
"Yours, ours, BJP belongs to everyone and this is a victory of the workers...Thank you to the people who supported the BJP by maintaining faith in its development-oriented working style," Gadkari wrote on X.

Maharashtra BJP leader Keshav Upadhye claimed on Sunday that the BJP had taken an early lead in most areas. The state election commission is yet to announce the official results of the polls to the posts of president and members in 286 municipal councils and nagar panchayats in Maharashtra.
He said the saffron party was leading in 58 out of 100 seats in Vidarbha, while the Shiv Sena was ahead in eight and the NCP seven. He said the Congress was ahead in 23 seats, while the Shiv Sena (UBT) and the NCP (SP) did not lead in any seat, and others were leading in four seats.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde claimed the Mahayuti had crossed the 200-mark in polls to 286 local bodies. He reiterated that "BJP had scored a century" while Shiv Sena notched a "half century" and emerged as the second-largest party in the state.
"Results show the public's preference for development over politics. The grand victory of the Mahayuti in the elections is an indication that the Mahayuti will repeat the same in the forthcoming municipal corporation elections," he said at a press conference.
"Konkan is the bastion of the Shiv Sena. It is not confined to Mumbai and Thane but has reached each and every household in the state. Even in areas where the party faced losses, the collective victory of the Mahayuti remained the priority," he added.
The Congress and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) claimed they had retained their party bastions in Chandrapur and Sangli districts.
Senior party leader Vijay Wadettiwar said the Congress has won the municipal council president's post as well as 21 of the 23 seats in Brahmapuri municipal council in Chandrapur district. The BJP and NCP have got one seat each.

In Vidarbha, which has 100 seats, the BJP emerged ahead with 58 seats, followed by the Congress with 23. The Shiv Sena won eight seats, while the NCP secured seven. Other parties and independents accounted for four seats, with smaller shares going to the UBT and Pawar factions, TOI reported.
Marathwada, comprising 52 seats, saw the BJP leading with 25 seats. The Shiv Sena won eight seats, the NCP six, and the Congress four. The Pawar faction secured two seats, while other parties accounted for three.
In North Maharashtra’s 49 seats, the BJP won 18, followed by the Shiv Sena with 11 and the NCP with seven. The Congress secured five seats, the Pawar faction one, and other parties and independents won five seats.
Western Maharashtra, which has 60 seats, recorded a more fragmented outcome, with the BJP winning 19 seats, the Shiv Sena 14, and the NCP 12. The Congress secured three seats, the UBT faction one, the Pawar faction four, and other parties seven.
In the Konkan region’s 27 seats, the Shiv Sena emerged slightly ahead with 10 seats, while the BJP won nine. The NCP, UBT faction, and Pawar faction secured one seat each, and other parties and independents won four seats.
