In her maiden Budget speech, Delhi Finance Minister Atishi Singh announced a key state scheme on Monday. Christened Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana, the scheme envisages a monthly honorarium of Rs 1,000 for every woman living in the National Capital. Lauding the scheme, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal termed it as ‘world’s biggest step towards women empowerment.’ Kejriwal also said that the scheme will come into force after the Lok Sabha Elections.
So, big question is – is every woman eligible for the Rs 1,000 honorarium? If not, what are the government-mandated rules that were announced by Atishi today? Here are key details of the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana:
- 1: All women who pay their taxes are not eligible for the scheme. However, if you are working woman, who has pay package that does not come under the tax ambit, then you are eligible for Rs 1,000 honorarium.
- 2: All woman who are beneficiary of any kind of pension under the Centre or state scheme are not eligible for the scheme.
- 3: All woman who have government jobs are not eligible for the scheme.
- 4: All young women attending school/colleges are eligible for Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana.
- 5: Any housewife who does not have a source of income such as pension is also eligible for the scheme.
- 6: All women who have non-taxable income are part of the scheme. This would benefit the women workers in the unorganised sector.
- 7: Finance Minister Atishi has allocated Rs 2,000 crore for the new scheme.
Whether she is a college student in need of additional books, a job aspirant seeking coaching, or simply wishes to enjoy a movie in a cinema hall, women will no longer have to rely on others for financial support, as Arvind Kejriwal, their brother, will provide them with Rs 1,000 each month, Atishi said while talking about the scheme.
