Hours after Arvind Kejriwal said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will “retire” next year as a BJP leader and he is indeed asking votes for Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who will fill his shoes, the Union Home minister on Saturday said that Modi will be the PM for the third time.
Speaking at a press conference at the BJP office in Hyderabad, Shah said, “I want to say this to Arvind Kejriwal and company and INDI alliance that do not need to feel happy about Narendra Modi turning 75. No such thing is mentioned in the BJP’s constitution. Modi ji is going to complete this term and Modi ji will continue to lead the country into the future. There is no confusion within the BJP; they want to create confusion.”
Kejriwal, addressing his supporters in Delhi today, said that Modi is turning 75 years old next September.
“He is the one who made the rule that party members who turn 75 years old have to retire. He has to retire next year. So I ask BJP, who is your PM pick? Who will fulfil Modi’s guarantees? Will Amit Shah do it? When you go out to vote, remember, you are voting for Amit Shah, not for Modi,” Kejriwal said.
On the interim bail of Kejriwal, Shah said that he has been given interim bail to hold election campaigns.
“He prayed in front of the Supreme Court that his arrest was wrong, but the Supreme Court did not agree to it. The interim bail has only been given till June 1 and on June 2 he has to surrender himself in front of the agencies. If Arvind Kejriwal considers this as a clean chit, then his understanding of the law is weak,” the Home Minister said at the press conference.
He also expressed confidence that the BJP-led NDA is going to secure over 400 seats, adding that it will win more than 10 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana.
“In the last three phases of the election, the BJP-led NDA and its constituents have reached the mark of 200 seats. We expect good results from the fourth phase, and we will move forward to our goal of 400 seats. In the fourth phase, the election is scheduled in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. In both the states, NDA and BJP will make a clean sweep,” he said.
“On the day of results, June 4, in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, BJP will emerge as the single largest party. In these states, BJP will get the most number of seats. In Telangana, we will win more than 10 seats.”
