A mild earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale shook parts of north-central Assam on Sunday morning, according to a bulletin from the National Center for Seismology. The tremor was recorded at 7:47 am in Udalguri district, located on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra River, at a depth of 15 km.

The epicenter was about 105 km north of Guwahati and 48 km west of Tezpur, near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. The quake was felt in neighboring districts such as Darrang, Tamulpur, Sonitpur, Kamrup and Biswanath, and even as far as Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan.

No reports of injuries or damage to property have been received. Assam, located in a high seismic zone, frequently experiences earthquakes.
