Hidden Camera in Andhra Pradesh’s Girls Hostel: Massive protests by students have erupted at an engineering college in Andhra Pradesh after a hidden camera was discovered in the washroom of a women’s hostel. The videos were allegedly sold and circulated among the students.

A case has been registered and a final-year student, Vijay Kumar, has been detained in connection with the incident. His laptop has been seized, and further investigation is underway, NDTV reported.

The incident took place at the Gudlavalleru Engineering College in Krishnan district and has sparked outrage among students and the local community.

A group of female students stumbled upon the concealed camera in their washroom on Thursday evening, setting off immediate distress. This led to a protest organised by students that began at around 7 pm and continued till this morning with chants of “We want justice” echoing around the campus.

According to media reports, over 300 photos and videos from the women’s hostel washroom were leaked, and some students had allegedly purchased these videos in the boys’ hostel.

Police said that investigation is on and they are yet to ascertain if more students were involved in setting up the camera and distribution of the videos.

BJP MLA from Vijayawada West strongly condemned the incident.

In a post on X, he said, “Strongly condemn the horrifying incident at Gudlavalleru Engineering College. The safety of our daughters cannot be compromised. Urgent and strict action is needed to ensure such incidents never happen again.”
