A week after riot broke out at Maruti Suzuki?s Manesar plant, the auto industry has decided to write to the Prime Minister?s Office urging him to ensure that investor confidence is not shaken by the incident.
?The executive committee of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers met on Wednesday. All members unanimously decided that we must take up the issue strongly with the PMO and the labour ministry,? Pravin shah chief executive officer, automotive division at Mahindra and Mahindra told FE on the sidelines of a function to unveil the refurbished version of the company?s entry level sedan Verito.
Reflecting the concerns of the automobile industry, Shah said that the situation was worrisome and the government needed to take swift and concrete actions otherwise it would indeed hurt investor sentiment in the economy. When questioned about the scene at the company?s plants, Shah ruled out any issues between the workers and the management.
?Whatever happened at Maruti?s plant is despicable. We condemn such act. Today it has happened with Maruti, tomorrow it could happen with anyone else too,? Shah said at the event.
Meanwhile, the Haryana government?s probe into what led to the incident of violence and arson at Maruti?s Manesar plant is underway.
The company which had earlier announced its separate investigation into the matter has merged it with that of the state government.
