Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that electricity in the state will become cheaper, with a phased reduction in tariffs being rolled out for the first time. Sharing what he called “good news”, Fadnavis said the rates will be brought down gradually over the next five years.
In the first year, consumers can expect a 10% cut, with additional reductions planned in the following years, adding up to a total of 26% by 2030. About 70% of electricity users in Maharashtra, who use less than 100 units, will benefit the most from the new plan.
“Good news on electricity tariffs!” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter), before adding, “For the first time in the State’s history, electricity tariffs will be reduced — starting with a 10% cut in the first year, and a total 26% reduction in phases over the next 5 years.”
He further thanked the state’s power commission for approving the electricity board’s proposal to slash bills. “Thanks to the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) for approving MSEDCL’s proposal to reduce tariffs, a move never attempted before.”
CM Fadnavis further said that this is the first time that a petition was filed for reduction.
“Previously, petitions used to be filed for tariff hikes of around 10%, but this time, a petition was filed for a reduction, benefiting domestic, industrial, and commercial consumers alike. Nearly 70% of consumers in the State use less than 100 units & they will benefit the most by the 10% tariff cut,” he revealed.
Fadnavis also announced that Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana 2.0 for farmers is underway. It is an extension to the 2017 scheme to provide farmers with reliable daytime electricity for irrigation
“It gives immense satisfaction to share this people-centric decision with the citizens of Maharashtra,” he expressed.

Thanks to the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission…
He also announced the development of Vadhavan Port, which he said will be three times bigger than India’s largest port. “We are building Vadhavan Port, which will be three times bigger than Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, the largest port of our country that handles 60 per cent of our container traffic. The Prime Minister laid the foundation of Vadhavan Port. Due to this, Maharashtra is emerging as a magnet for industry and logistics in the country,” he said.
