Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday directed the “bribe-for-query” complaint made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey against Trinamool Congress member Mahua Moitra to be forwarded to the Ethics Committee of the Lower House.

In his complaint addressed to the Speaker dated October 15, Dubey alleged that Moitra accepted “bribes” from a businessman in exchange for posing questions in Parliament, and sought an “inquiry committee” to thoroughly investigate these allegations.

Moitra fired back at the allegations by saying that she is open to facing any consequences once the Lok Sabha Speaker has resolved the pending charges against him (Dubey). It’s worth noting that the Ethics Committee of the Lok Sabha, which is chaired by BJP member Vinod Kumar Sonkar, is responsible for handling these issues.

MP Nishikant Dubey on Sunday wrote to the Lok Sabha Speaker demanding the immediate suspension of the Trinamool Congress MP for allegedly “accepting bribes in exchange for posing questions in Parliament” under the subject “Re-emergence of nasty ‘Cash for Query’ in Parliament, Direct involvement of Smt. Mahua Moitra, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) for serious ‘Breach of Privilege’, ‘Contempt of the House’ and a ‘Criminal Offence’ under Section 120-A of IPC”.

Dubey claims to have received a letter from an advocate containing “irrefutable” evidence of bribes being exchanged between Moitra and a businessman in exchange for posing questions in Parliament.
