Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Saturday hit out at the BJP government saying that violence against the backward castes continues under its rule.
“Today the backward castes are demanding population census, because they are seeing that they are not getting any benefits. They are not getting admissions in the universities.”
Gogoi said that the Congress party welcomed the Supreme Court’s ruling in the Ram Temple matter.
He also added that Congress believes in secularism but distances itself from the “western definition” of the word. “India is a religious country. We believe in equality of all religions, not just any one scripture,” he said.
Quoting Guru Nanak, the MP said that the Congress party wants to unite all and this is India’s tradition.
“Thereby, I want to warn the ruling party that they should shun the path of Nathuram Godse (one who killed Mahatma Gandhi), you must discontinue the tradition of worshipping Godse…they must stop being arrogant. Ravan was killed due to his arrogance. Your arrogance is stopping you from seeing inflation, intolerance, violence towards minorities,” Gogoi said.
“This country’s birth didn’t happen on 22 January 2024, Ram Lalla has always been with us, even before 500 years and also in the future. Ram is in our hearts,” he added.
Amid protest by the treasury bench, Gogoi said, “The ‘Jai Shri Ram’ chant must have love and goodwill. But your ‘Jai Shri Ram’ chant has anger and bitterness, why so?”
Initiating the discussion on “the construction of historic Shri Ram Temple and Pran Pratishtha of Shri Ramlala” in the Lok Sabha, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member Satya Pal Singh said Lord Ram belongs to everyone and not Hindus alone.
He also accused the Congress of questioning the existence of Ram.
Singh said the construction of the Ram temple at Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh was historic, and accused the Congress of questioning the existence of Ram.
