Anurag Sharma, BJP candidate from Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi Lok Sabha constituency is the richest candidate among contestants fighting in the fifth phase of the general elections, according to a report by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). He has assets worth Rs 212 crore.

Independent candidate Nilesh Bhagwan Sambare contesting from Bhiwandi seat in Maharashtra has assets worth Rs 116 crore, while BJP candidate Piyush Goyal contesting from Mumbai North constituency has assets worth Rs 110 crore.

The report is prepared by ADR and the National Election Watch, which analysed the self-sworn affidavits of all 695 candidates, who are contesting in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Phase V in eight states.

Other candidates with the highest assets are: Suresh Gopinath Mhatre (BJP) with assets of Rs 107 crore, Krishna Nand Tripathi (Congress) Rs 70 crore, Sangeeta Kumari Singh (BJP) Rs 67 crore.

There is only one candidate who has declared zero assets.

Candidates with the lowest assets are: Independent candidate Mohammad Sultan Ganaie contesting from Baramulla constituency in Jammu and Kashmir, who has declared assets of Rs 67. He is followed by Independent candidates Mukesh Kumar (Muzaffarpur, Bihar) and Surajit Hembram (Hooghly, West Bengal) with assets Rs 700 and Rs 5,427 respectively.

In the fifth phase polls, 695 candidates from eight states and UTs will go to polls. A total of 1,586 nominations were filed for 49 parliamentary constituencies, and after the scrutiny of all nominations, 749 nominations were found to be valid.

In this phase, voting will take place across five seats in Bihar, one in Jammu and Kashmir, three seats in Jharkhand, one in Ladakh, 13 seats in Maharashtra, five seats in Odisha, 14 in Uttar Pradesh and seven seats in West Bengal.
