Lok Sabha elections phase 1: The stage is set for phase 1 voting, on 102 constituencies across 21 states, which will take place on Friday (April 19) from 7 am till 5 pm. Campaigning for the elections was in full swing till Wednesday.
The states and the UTs that are going to polls in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024 include: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jammu and Kashmir, Lakshadweep, Puducherry.
The Election Commission has undertake several measures to appeal to the voters to go out and cast their ballot.
In order to cast your vote, the voters must carry some documents. The Election Commission of India had started issuing voter slips and sending them to the houses of eligible voters. However, not all eligible voters have received their voter slips.
Is voter slip mandatory?
With several voters yet to receive their voter slips, a common question arises – can I still cast a vote in the elections without a slip?
The answer is YES. Eligible voters can vote without the slips if their name is mentioned on the electoral roll.
Voters can check whether their name is mentioned on the electoral roll on the official website of the Election Commission of India – electoralsearch.eci.gov.in.
Voters would be required to select their state and then enter their Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) Number provided on the voter card to check the voter list.
In case the voters don’t have a Voter ID card or voter slip but are mentioned in the electoral roll, they can still cast their vote by showing other government IDs recognised by the ECI, such as – Aadhar, PAN Card, Passport, etc.
What is a voter slip?
A voter slip or ‘Voter Information Slip (VIS)’ is a document issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI). It contains details of a voter, such as a name, age, gender, assembly constituency, polling station location, and the date and time of the poll. When carried by a voter on poll day, it serves as a guiding manual for voters and an identifier of genuine voters.
The ECI has provided convenient ways for voters to look for their names in the Electoral Rolls online. Thus, you can easily view your Voter ID details and download voter slips without any hassles as per your convenience.
How do download voter slip online?
- Visit the National Voters’ Service Portal (NVSP) website https://www.nvsp.in
- Click on the ‘Search in Electoral Roll’ tab on the homepage.
- Select any one of the options – ‘Search by Details’, ‘Search by EPIC’ or ‘Search by Mobile’.
- Enter the required information and captcha code and click ‘Search’.
- The system will provide your details. You can further check if your details are correct by clicking on ‘View Details’ under the ‘Action’ column.
- The voter details will be displayed. Click on the ‘Print Voter Information’ button.
How to download voter slip on mobile?
The voters can download the voter slip through the Voter Helpline mobile app by following the below steps:
- Download and install the ‘Voter Helpline App’ from the Google Play Store.
- Login by entering your mobile number and password registered on the NVSP website or register as ‘New User’ if you are not registered on the NVSP website and log in to the app.
- Click on the ‘Search Your Name in Electoral Roll’ option.
- Select any one of the options – ‘Search by Mobile’, ‘Search by Bar/QR Code’, ‘Search by Details’ or ‘Search by EPIC No.’.
- Enter the required information and click ‘Search’.
- The voter details will be displayed. Click on the ‘Download’ icon.
