India is gearing up for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 – the biggest democratic poll exercise on the planet. According to the schedule announced by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, the national polls will be held in 7 rounds from April 19 and the results will be announced on the counting day on June 4. This national poll will elect the 18th Lok Sabha. The party that emerges in the majority in the Lower House will subsequently choose the Prime Minister. However, Odisha Assembly elections will take place in four rounds. The poll dates for Odisha Assembly Election are 13 May 2024, 20 May 2024, 25 May 2024 and 1 June 2024. Counting of votes for Odisha polls will be held on June 4.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, around 97 crore people will be eligible to exercise their franchise this time. The 2024 number of voters has gone up from 2019. The official data suggests that around 1.82 crore people will be the first-time voters in the General Elections. In the last polls, the voter turnout was 67.04 per cent, which was the highest registered by Independent India.
