On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah issued a scathing critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing the party of aligning with Nathuram Godse’s ideology and urging the people to unite against this alleged agenda. Addressing the “Gandhi Bharat” event at Bharath Jodo Bhavan, the CM stressed the importance of preserving Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals, calling them the “conscience of India.”
Siddaramaiah stated, “Gandhiji’s body may have been destroyed, but his ideals are eternal. Godse is the leader for the BJP. We must all come together to defeat their conspiracy to transform India according to Godse’s ideology.” The event was organized by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) to commemorate 100 years since the All India Congress Committee (AICC) meeting chaired by Gandhi in Belagavi.
The Chief Minister emphasized that Gandhi’s vision represented the conscience of the nation and should guide the country in its fight against communal forces. “Whenever the BJP has been in power, they have divided society along caste and religious lines. They have neglected the people while spreading false rumors about pro-people programs,” Siddaramaiah said, pointing to his government’s “guarantee schemes” which aim to benefit citizens from all backgrounds.
Siddaramaiah also invoked the teachings of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, stating that both Gandhi’s and Ambedkar’s aspirations for a just society cannot be realized through rhetoric alone. He highlighted his government’s commitment to fostering equality through various welfare programs.
At a Gandhi Jayanti event at the Banquet Hall in Vidhan Soudha, Siddaramaiah declared, “Gandhiji’s Sarvodaya and Ambedkar’s Antyodaya are our guiding principles.” He reminded the gathering of Gandhi’s tireless efforts to uplift rural India and his lifelong commitment to India’s freedom struggle.
Born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat, Mahatma Gandhi became a pivotal leader in India’s fight for independence from British rule, advocating for non-violence and civil disobedience. His legacy continues to inspire movements for peace and justice across the world.
As the nation marks this day, the Chief Minister’s call to defend Gandhi’s values underscores the enduring relevance of his teachings in today’s socio-political landscape.
