Replying to a case registered against one of the drivers of Uber in Kolkata, the taxi aggregator has assured that it will offer full support to the local authorities and Kolkata police in investigating the journalist harassment case. In a statement to ANI, Uber said, “We have spoken to the rider and reassured her that a behaviour of this nature has no place in the app. We are looking into this matter and are committed to support the local authorities in their investigation and proceedings in any way possible.”

A case against an Uber driver was registered on Saturday, for allegedly harassing a journalist in Park Circus area in Kolkata. The journalist, who hails from Nepal works with a leading English daily newspaper. On that fateful day, she booked the cab from Park Circus seven point area.

According to her, the driver made alleged vulgar gestures at every stop, however he didn’t physically harm her. Without waiting for anything wrong to happen she quickly informed her office. People from her office lodged a complaint with the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, following which the Additional OC of Jadavpur Police Station took over the matter.

The car was seized and a case against the driver was registered.
