Former RG Kar Medical College and Hospital principal Sandip Ghosh and Tala Police Station officer-in-charge Abhijit Mondal were presented before a court by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday in connection with the rape and murder of a doctor at the medical facility.

The CBI has requested a three-day remand for both individuals in Sealdah court. Ghosh, who is currently in judicial custody, faces new charges of evidence tampering, while Mondal was arrested on Saturday for similar allegations and failure to register the FIR in a timely manner.

Mondal’s arrest came after he was reportedly unable to provide satisfactory answers during his interrogation by CBI officers. The central agency had earlier arrested Ghosh on September 2 over financial irregularities at the hospital.

The police have deployed a large contingent of security personnel outside the Sealdah court as the case progresses. The body of the postgraduate trainee doctor was discovered in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.
