Power Minister MM Mani’s earlier controversial statements have sparked yet another development. The Kerala High Court has conveyed strong disapproval of the words used by the Power Minister pertaining to women and further observed that it is of a serious nature. “What is happening in the state? Is the police chief not looking into what is happening?”, the bench observed.

According to local news reports, what irked the court is that the Additional Director General of Prosecution, who appeared on behalf of the state government, had justified Power Minister MM Mani’s statement in the court. It was represented that Mani’s speech was not derogatory towards women but it was against the media. It was also pointed out that the visuals of his speech are a proof of this fact. Hearing this justification, the Kerala High Court strongly flayed the statement made by the Minister and observed that this calls for a serious introspection.

“Anything can be said against media persons? They are also human beings with fundamental rights – how can such statements be made? This calls for serious introspection,” the bench observed.

Earlier, Power Minister MM Mani had told local channels, “I did not make any anti-women remarks. I want to say that Congress leaders need not teach me to respect women. Many of them were named in the Suryanelli case.”

Meanwhile, local channels had also reported a minor scuffle this morning. It took place between protesters and a group of unidentified people who made an attempt to demolish the Pembilai Orumai pandal. Tensions had reached a peak point for over 30 minutes after some persons asked Aam Aadmi Party activists to vacate the venue. The matter was sorted out thereafter.
