A portion of a bridge in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district collapsed following incessant rains. The 300-meter bridge, built in 2014, spans the Gomia block, connecting Lalpania in Bokaro and Dumri in Giridih district. The collapse occurred Saturday, with a section of approximately 20-30 feet falling.

Bermo Sub-Divisional Officer Ashok Kumar said a probe committee has been established to investigate the incident.

The heavy rains over the past two days have caused significant damage across Jharkhand. Several road diversions were washed away, trees were uprooted, and houses were damaged. Despite the destruction, no casualties have been reported.

In addition, a road diversion near Kandra village, which connects Gumla and Lohardaga, was washed out. Another diversion in Chainpur block was also lost, impacting around 15,000 residents in five villages. Many houses in low-lying areas have been damaged.

In Ramgarh, authorities have issued an alert for the Rajrappa temple pilgrimage site due to rising water levels in the Damodar and Bhairvi rivers. Devotees are advised to avoid the exit gate along the Damodar river, according to temple chief priest Ajay Panda.

The recent rains have reduced the state’s rainfall deficiency to 19 percent, which is considered normal by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). From June 1 to August 3, Jharkhand has received 435.7 mm of rainfall, compared to the normal 538.7 mm.
