Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled BJP’s manifesto for Jammu and Kashmir on Friday ahead of the state’s scheduled assembly elections in September and October. Speaking at the unveiling of the manifesto, he declared that Article 370 is obsolete and will never be put into effect. The manifesto’s main points cover everything from livelihood-related initiatives like housing and LPG cylinders to redevelopment of Dal Lake and river fronts. In its manifesto, the BJP listed 25 goals, the main one being the eradication of terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir.

Among the 25 goals, the BJP prioritised development in Jammu and Kashmir headed by women with the promise to implement ‘Maa Samman Yojana’.

What is Maa Samman Yojana?

Under the ‘Maa Samman Yojana’, the BJP government in its manifesto has promised to provide an annual amount of Rs 18,000 to the senior most woman in each Jammu and Kashmir household. It also promised to support Women SHGs with regard to bank loan interest through the state government.

“We have decided to implement the ‘Mas Samman Yojana,’ which will provide an annual sum of Rs 18,000 to the oldest woman in each family,” Amit Shah said.

In addition to the ‘Maa Samman Yojana’, the BJP manifesto also promises to provide two free cylinders every year to each household under the Ujjwala scheme.
