A fighter plane for the Indian Air Force crashed in Gujarat on Wednesday night with two pilots on board. Officials said one of the pilots on board the Jaguar aircraft had ejected safely before the crash. A search operation has been initiated for the second individual on board. Emergency teams have reportedly been dispatched to the site of the accident in Jamnagar and investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of the crash.
Jamnagar SP Prem Sukh Delu said there had been two pilots on board the trainer aircraft at the time of the crash. One of them had been rescued and taken the hospital while operations continued to rescue the other pilot.
“Jaguar fighter aircraft of Indian Air Force crashes in Jamnagar. One pilot ejected safely, search on for another,” news agency PTI quoted SP Delu as saying.
Visuals shared online showed the small aircraft lying on its side with some metal parts strew around the crash site. Rescuers and locals can be seen walking around with flashlights as emergency vehicles wait nearby.
