Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said that terrorism has been “buried” and will not be allowed to make a comeback. During a rally in Udhampur, Shah promised a terror-free environment under the BJP regime. He also criticised the National Conference-Congress alliance, alleging that it would impose Pakistan’s agenda if elected to power.
As part of the BJP’s election campaign, Shah noted that assembly elections are being held in Jammu and Kashmir without the provisions of Article 370.
“Article 370 was the reason behind deterioration, chaos, and issues in Jammu and Kashmir. Today, as this Article stands abolished, there has begun a new era of peace and prosperity,” he said.
He claimed that the Narendra Modi-led government fulfilled the vision of party patriarch Syama Prasad Mukherjee by abrogating Article 370 in August 2019.
Shah issued a stern warning to those who spread terror in the region, saying, “Whoever spreads terror in Jammu and Kashmir will get his answer at the gallows.”
He referenced Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, asking the audience if he should have been hanged, and criticised the NC-Congress for suggesting otherwise.
“They want to release stone pelters and terrorists. Omar Abdullah gave up these dreams because you cannot do it. It is the duty of courts, and we have enforced such laws that nobody will dare to hurl a stone anymore,” he said.
“The world is closely watching the Jammu and Kashmir elections, where two vastly different visions are at play. On one hand, the NC, Congress, and PDP parties, perpetuating terrorism in the region for around 40 years, are eyeing for power. On the other hand, the BJP, committed to rooting out terrorism entirely, offers an absolutely contrasting picture,” he said.
The third and final phase of elections in Jammu and Kashmir is set for October 1. Counting of votes will be held on October 8.
