The Intelligence Bureau (IB) has identified around 5,000 Pakistani nationals staying in Delhi and has forwarded the list to the Delhi Police for taking further action, as reported by ANI. The move has been taken, followed by a recent directive issued from the Centre after the terror attack on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam district.

According to the officials, the Foreign Regional Office (FRRO) has shared the detailed list with the Special Branch of the Delhi Police. It has then been forwarded by the police to district units for enforcement and verification. The primary aim is to ensure that those without valid visas will have to return to Pakistan soon.

A senior official also disclosed that the majority of Pakistani nationals are living in the Central and North East districts of the city. ”The list has been shared with the respective districts for verification. Pakistani nationals have been asked to leave the country,” the official stated to ANI. To speed up the process, meetings have been held at senior levels, and the developments are being closely overseen by the district officers.

Intelligence Bureau operatives, along with Special Branch teams, have been assigned to gather updated information about the individuals and to ensure adherence to the government’s directive.

Authorities stated that two lists have been received, one having 3,000 names and another 2,000 names, with some of them mentioned on both. The verification process is currently going on to confirm the status of these individuals, as many Pakistani nationals are believed to have already left the country.

On Friday, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) directed the revocation of visas for Pakistani nationals. Exemptions have been to only those who have diplomatic, medical or Long-Term Visas (LTVs).

Medical visas will also be considered invalid after April 29, 2025. However, officials clarified that Hindu Pakistani nationals who already have LTVs will be not impacted by the new directive, as ANI reported.

As per rough calculations, about 900 Pakistani nationals are staying near Majnu ka Tila and another 600 to 700 are residing around the Signature Bridge area. Meanwhile, the Delhi Police are continuing with the verification process so that strict enforcement of the new rules is implemented.
