An Infosys employee, who was caught red-handed by a woman recording her in the office washroom, has made a disturbing confession to Bengaluru police. Swapnil Nagesh Mali said that he gets “satisfaction” from watching such videos, as per a report by TOI

Police found 50 such videos on the phone of the 30-year-old employee who was fired by the tech giant. He also confessed to the police that he had secretly recorded one more woman in the office washroom, the outlet further reported.

Swapnil is from Maharashtra’s Sangli district and is the son of a farmer, the outlet further reported.

How did the incident come to light?

According to the complaint, which the Electronic City police converted into an FIR, the victim reported to the office on June 30 and went to the washroom on the third floor. While using it, she noticed a reflection on the cubicle door. She also saw someone attempting to pull something from the adjacent stall.

She quickly sensed that something was off and came out of the cubicle to understand the situation. Another woman had exited the cubicle again. Confused, she went inside again and stood on the commode this time, only to find Mali recording her with his pants down.

When confronted, he repeatedly apologised.

The victim then alerted other employees and informed HR. According to reports, he tried running away but was held by the HR.

When his phone was examined, several such videos, including those of the victim, were found on his phone. HR deleted videos from his phone after taking a screenshot as proof.

‘Zero tolerance policy’: Infosys

Infosys, as per a report by Asianet News, didn’t take disciplinary action until the woman told the ordeal to her husband, who filed a complaint with the police.

The company later put out a statement saying that Mali “no longer works with them” and that they follow a “zero tolerance policy” towards such instances.

“We are aware of the incident and have taken necessary action against the employee, who is no longer with the company,” the company said in a statement.

It added, “We also promptly supported the complainant by facilitating a swift complaint with law enforcement authorities and continue to cooperate with the ongoing investigation.”

The statement issued by the IT giant further said, “Infosys is committed to providing a harassment-free work environment and follows a zero-tolerance policy. We take every complaint regarding violations of the company’s Code of Conduct very seriously.”
