Kolkata-bound IndiGo flight has returned to Nagpur after a suspected bird hit following take-off this morning. The passengers were deboarded at Nagpur airport, and a probe is reportedly underway.
“We are trying to analyse what has happened. More details awaited,” said Abid Ruhi, Senior Airport Director, Nagpur Airport, as quoted by ANI.
IndiGo flight returns, stands cancelled
A senior airport official said that the plane was carrying 160 to 165 passengers, and that it had to return to the Nagpur airport following the incident as part of a precautionary measure, PTI reported.
The flight has been cancelled, and it is not clear whether an alternative flight will be provided to the passengers.
According to data from Flightradar24, Nagpur-Kolkata flight 6E812 was an Airbus A320-251N.
The bird strike reportedly took place shortly after takeoff and damaged the aircraft’s front portion. As per a picture shared by News18, there was a dent in the front portion of the aircraft. The image also shows a staffer inspecting the dent.
IndiGo’s statement
IndiGo, in a statement, has acknowledged the incident and said that the plane landed safely in Nagpur.
“IndiGo flight 6E 812 operating from Nagpur to Kolkata on 02 September 2025 encountered a bird strike soon after take-off,” the airline said.
It added, “As a precautionary step, pilots decided to turn back, and the flight landed safely at the Nagpur airport.”
The airline further said, “Due to the requirement of necessary inspection and maintenance of the aircraft, the flight has been cancelled for the day.”
Air India flight returned to Delhi
On Sunday, an Air India flight returned to Delhi following a fire indication for the right engine.
“Flight AI2913, operating from Delhi to Indore on 31 August, air-returned to Delhi shortly after take-off, as the cockpit crew received a fire indication for the right engine,” the Air India spokesperson said.
The spokesperson further informed that an alternative flight has been arranged for passengers.
The statement added, “Following standard procedure, the cockpit crew elected to shut down the engine and returned to Delhi, where the flight landed safely. The aircraft has been grounded for inspection, and passengers are being transferred to an alternative aircraft, which will operate the flight to Indore shortly.”
“The regulator has been duly informed of the incident. We regret the inconvenience caused to the passengers. At Air India, the safety of passengers and crew is our top priority,” it further said.
