About Nimisha Priya’s Yemen case
The Indian nurse in question hails from Kerala’s Palakkad district. She had been living in Yemen with her husband and daughter for over a decade. While her family returned to Indian in 2014 ahead of the intensified 2016 Yemen Crisis, Nimisha had to stay back. In 2017, she was accused of killing her Yemeni business partner. Following a dispute, she is said to have injected Mahdi with sedatives to retrieve her confiscated passport. However, the situation flipped upside down, resulting in the man’s death.
Almost a year later in March 2018, she was convicted of the crime. A trial court sentenced her to death in 2020, followed by Yemen’s Supreme Judicial Council upholding the verdict three years later.
