IMD Weather Update: Several parts of the country received heavy rainfall last week and according to the latest weather predictions by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), intense rainfall is likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, SubHimalaya West Bengal, Sikkim, north Odisha, and north Chhattisgarh over the next 2-3 days.
On the other hand, the meteorological department forecasted that Maharashtra will experience a noticeable decrease in rainfall.
IMD issues heavy rainfall warning for Odisha
The Met Office has issued weather warnings for several districts in Odisha. An Orange Warning has been issued for six districts, including Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Deogarh, and Angul. These districts may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, ranging from 7 to 20cm.
Additionally, there is a Yellow Warning in effect for several other districts, namely Bolangir, Boudh, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh. These districts are expected to receive heavy rainfall, with accumulations between 7 to 11cm.
Furthermore, the IMD has issued another Yellow Warning for a broader set of districts, including Bargarh, Sonepur, Bolangir, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, and Jajpur. In these areas, heavy rainfall is anticipated, with potential accumulations ranging from 7 to 20cm.
West Bengal to see heavy rains
The meteorological department said that the low-pressure area situated over Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh is expected to bring heavy rainfall to several districts in West Bengal until October 5. Across the state, there is a high likelihood of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. Specifically, heavy rainfall is anticipated in the coastal districts of South 24 Parganas and Purba Medinipur until October 4, as well as in Purulia, Bankura, Paschim Bardhaman, Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, Birbhum, and Murshidabad districts during this period.
Furthermore, heavy rain is also expected in Paschim Bardhaman, Birbhum, and Murshidabad districts on October 5. The Met Office has also issued warnings of heavy to very heavy rain in the northern districts of Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar, along with heavy rain in the other sub-Himalayan districts.
Region-wise IMD weather forecast
In East India, there are rainfall warnings in place for various regions. From October 2-4, light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall, along with thunderstorms and lightning is expected. Isolated heavy rainfall is highly likely in Jharkhand and north Odisha during this period. Similarly, from October 2-5, Bihar and West Bengal & Sikkim are anticipated to experience similar weather conditions. Moreover, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands should prepare for such conditions from October 4-6. Additionally, isolated very heavy rainfall is expected in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on October 3-4.
In Central India, light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is forecasted in north Chhattisgarh today. In Northwest India, there’s a likelihood of light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall in southeast Uttar Pradesh today. Isolated rainfall is also expected over the Western Himalayan Region in the next 24 hours.
Moving to Northeast India, October 2-5, light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning is likely in Assam & Meghalaya. Similarly, from October 2-4, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura will experience similar weather conditions. Arunachal Pradesh should be prepared for this on October 4-5.
