The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for multiple parts of the country including coastal Karnataka, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Goa and sub-Himalayan West Bengal. The depression over east central Arabian Sea has crossed south Konkan coast between Goa’s Panjim and Ratnagiri of Maharashtra. 

The Met office has predicted that it will move northeast wards and weaken into a Well Marked Low Pressure Area during the next 24 hours. It also predicts heavy rainfall activity over east India till October 3rd and along the west coast till Sunday (October 1st).

Highest rainfall in last 24 hours

In the past 24 hours, the top five rainfall stations are Goa’s Mapusa (13 cm) followed by Kerala’s Ernakulam 13 cm, Odisha’s Soro 11 cm, Karnataka’s Kottigehara 11 cm, and West Bengal’s Murshidabad 10 cm.

A look at weather conditions across few states:- 

Delhi

Delhi is likely to experience clear skies with mist in the morning. The maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 35 and 22 degrees Celsius respectively. On Saturday, the national capital registered a maximum temperature of 38.2 degrees Celsius.

West Bengal

The IMD has predicted generally cloudy skies with temperature most likely to be around 31 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius respectively. It forecasts rain or thundershowers over all the districts of sub-Himalayan parts and at many places over Sikkim. The heavy rain (7-11 cm) is likely to take place at one or two places over Sikkim and Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Coochbehar and Alipurduar districts.

Odisha

The heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) is very likely to occur at a one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, Cuttack and Balasore. While, heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Nayagarh, Boudh, Puri, and Khordha. The thunderstorm with lightning is also very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of North Odisha, South coastal Odisha, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Bolangir and Kalahandi.
