An intense spell of snowfall and rainfall over the western Himalayan region and rainfall over the plains of northwest India is predicted from today till March 3, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) mentioned in the latest weather bulletin.
Due to a fresh western disturbance, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall and snowfall are very likely over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh till tomorrow, IMD mentioned.
Meanwhile, isolated heavy rainfall and snowfall are also predicted over Uttarakhand till March 2.
Rainfall in parts of the country
A western disturbance as a cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Iran & neighborhood in lower to upper tropospheric levels. Under its influence, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms & lightning over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi till March 2.
Due to troughs or confluence of winds in central parts, isolated light to moderate rainfall is likely over Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh till March 5.
Northeastern states like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura will witness wet spells during the next few days.
Delhi may receive light rainfall
As per the Regional Weather Forecasting Center (RWFC) Delhi, the national capital may witness light rain and thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of 25-35 kmph speed towards night today. Delhi recorded an overall AQI of 168 which is in the moderate category on Thursday.
Hailstorm in hilly regions
As per the national weather forecast agency, hailstorm activity is also very likely at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand till March 2.
Parts of Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh may also witness hailstorms.
