India weather today: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) announced the premature arrival of monsoon which arrived 14 days early. With the heavy onset in Kerala, more than eight districts were under a red-alert. As the north-western monsoon winds head towards the North-East, states like Assam and West Bengal welcome heavy rains, thunderstorm and lightning.
Districts, Jalpaiguri, Barpeta, Chirang, Baksa and Bongaigaon are under a red-alert warning. Visuals surface from Assam as commuters face trouble as heavy rains trigger severe waterlogging in parts of Guwahati. With buses stuck and travellers facing difficulty, they make it through waterlogged roads on foot.

Red-Alert in Sikkim
Water levels of the Teesta river have increased following heavy rainfall in the region. Landslides due to rain in the Theeng and Chungthang areas of North Sikkim have left many properties damaged, as per district administration. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over the hilly regions of West Bengal and Sikkim over the weekend, and across Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura over the next seven days, due to a lingering circulation from a recent low-pressure system. Assam and Meghalaya are also likely to receive isolated extremely heavy rainfall on Sunday, following intense showers recorded in the region until 5:30 PM on Friday, May 30.

Pahalgam receives heavy rains
Lowered temperatures and heavy rainfall, Pahalgam is drenched by torrential rains. Vehicles tread carefully and residents remain inside. As the region became increasingly sensitive following the terror attack, officials take shelter from the rain ensuring maximum security for residents and tourists alike. Fresh rain and snowfall have been reported across the Kashmir Valley since Friday, affecting areas like Gulmarg, Gurez Valley, and Zojila Pass. The weather department predicts this wet spell to continue for three days.
