India has been elected to the 15-member GlobE Steering Committee during a plenary session held in Beijing today, September 26, 2024, following a multistage voting process.

As a member of the steering committee, India will play a critical role in shaping the global agenda on anti-corruption and asset recovery efforts. The country’s expertise in combating corruption will be a significant asset to the Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities (GlobE Network), a G20 initiative India supported in 2020.

The GlobE Network, officially launched on June 3, 2021, at the UN General Assembly Special Session against Corruption (UNGASS), now includes 121 member countries and 219 law enforcement authorities. India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) are part of the network, with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) acting as the central authority for India.

The GlobE Network serves as a platform for sharing best practices, criminal intelligence, and developing strategies among agencies worldwide to combat corruption. The steering committee, consisting of one chair, one vice-chair, and 13 members, provides leadership and direction for the organisation.

India’s election comes as the nation continues to push for global cooperation against financial crimes, following its G20 presidency in 2023, where two high-level principles to combat corruption were adopted, emphasising the GlobE Network’s role.
