Imran Masood, who threatened to ‘chop’ Narendra Modi ‘into pieces’, was appointed as Congress’ vice-president in Uttar Pradesh. The party had on Tuesday appointed Raj Babbar as its state president. Masood came to limelight during the 2014 general elections when he threatened to ‘chop’ Narendra Modi ‘into pieces’, then the BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate.

Masood, 40, was arrested based on a video clipping that went viral on social media and the web and is facing criminal charges.

Reacting to the appointment, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said, “So Congress rewards the “Boti-Boti” man of Uttar Pradesh Imran Masood with the post of UPPC Vice President!Reflects the mind set of Congress.”

Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid said, “You cannot hold a person down for metaphors.”

The grand old party yesterday appointed, Raja Ram Pal, Rajesh Mishra, Bhagwati Prasad and Imran Masood to UP PCC. Outgoing chief Nirmal Khatri was made the chairman of the state screening committee.

Reacting to Raj Babbar’s appointment, BJP said it has now become clear that the party would continue to work as the ‘B’ team of ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh.

BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said, “By appointing Raj Babbar and Imran Masood to top party posts in Uttar Pradesh, Congress has given a clear message that it would continue to work as the ‘B’ team of the Samajwadi Party.”

Pointing at Babbar’s ‘samajwadi’ background, BJP reminded that the ex-Bollywood actor contested against ex-PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Lucknow on a Samajwadi Party ticket.

In 2013, Raj Babbar in a press conference had said that he knew of an eatery in Mumbai where one could get a full meal for Rs 12 only. This statement of his had got the Congress in a spot.
