Several states of North India including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh will reel under cold day conditions till January 28, the latest weather bulletin of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) mentioned.
As per the weather forecast agency, dense to very dense fog conditions are likely to continue to prevail over North India during the next 5 days along with cold day conditions. Meanwhile, dense fog engulfed the national capital on January 25 (today) bringing visibility to zero at some places.
Isolated pockets of Bihar, Rajasthan, and Madya Pradesh will witness chilly conditions for the next two days.
Foggy conditions to prevail
IMD has predicted dense to very dense fog conditions for a few hours in the night/morning over some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh till January 28.
Dense fog conditions are likely to prevail in the morning hours in isolated pockets of north Rajasthan, north Madhya Pradesh, and other parts of the country for next few days.
Cold conditions tighten grip over Delhi
Delhi on Wednesday experienced cold to severe cold conditions with the maximum temperature settling two notches below the season’s average at 18.3 degrees Celsius.
The day began with a slight respite from the biting cold as the city recorded a low of 8.3 degrees Celsius, higher than 6.9 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The temperature is likely to hover between 7-18 degrees Celsius on January 25 (today).
Notably, the national capital has experienced five cold days and five cold wave days in January so far, the highest in the past 13 years, the meteorological department said.
Rainfall and snowfall alert
Under the influence of two feeble western disturbances, light isolated rainfall/snowfall is likely over the western Himalayan region from January 25-30.
Further, due to anti-cyclonic circulation over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and cyclonic circulation over east Vidarbha, light rainfall at isolated to scattered places likely over Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Sikkim, and northeast India during next 2 days. An isolated hailstorm is likely over Sikkim today.
