Himachal Pradesh Minister and Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh stated that a joint meeting with the Public Works, Urban Development, and Municipal Corporation has led to the issuance of an order requiring every shopkeeper and street vendor to display their identification.

“We did a meeting with the UD (Urban Development) and the Municipal Corporation. To make sure that hygienic food is sold, a decision has been taken for all the street vendors… especially those selling edible items,” Vikramaditya told reporters on Wednesday.

He highlighted that local residents had raised concerns about the hygiene of street food, saying ,”People expressed their concerns and doubts, and considering this, we have decided to implement a similar policy to that in UP, in which it has been made mandatory that vendors have to display their names and IDs… Every shopkeeper and street vendor has to display their identification.”

Given the public’s expressed concerns and doubts, the authorities have decided to implement a policy similar to that of Uttar Pradesh, where vendors must display their names and IDs. Every shopkeeper and street vendor will be required to showcase their identification.

Earlier today, Vikramaditya Singh announced this development in a Facebook post, explaining that the decision was made during a joint meeting with the Public Works, Urban Development, and Municipal Corporation.

In Himachal, every restaurant and fast food outlet will need to display the owner’s ID to ensure a smooth experience for customers. This instruction was issued following discussions in the Urban Development and Municipal Corporation meeting held yesterday, Singh noted on Facebook.

This move comes in response to the Uttar Pradesh government’s directive on Tuesday, which requires food establishments to display the names and addresses of operators, proprietors, and managers. CM Yogi also mandated that chefs and waiters wear masks and gloves and made the installation of CCTV cameras in hotels and restaurants obligatory.
