Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Hemant Soren was sworn in as the 13th chief minister of Jharkhand on Thursday. Ahead of the oath-taking ceremony, leaders from the ruling coalition said that the Governor invited them to form the government.

Earlier on Thursday, Governor CP Radhakrishnan invited Soren to form the government in Jharkhand. The development came a day after Champai Soren stepped down from the post of CM.

In Ranchi, Soren along with the leaders of the INDIA bloc arrived at Raj Bhavan. Taking to ‘X’, Hemant Soren took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government, stating that the end of the “anti-democracy conspiracy” hatched by the rivals has begun.

“Thank you His Excellency the Governor. The end of the anti-democracy conspiracy hatched by the opposition has begun. Satyamev Jayate,” Hemant Soren wrote.

Just five months after taking the oath, Champai Soren resigned from the post on Wednesday. He took oath as Jharkhand’s CM in the Raj Bhavan on February 2, 2024.

On June 28, Hemant Soren was released from the Birsa Munda Jail after nearly five months following bail from Jharkhand High Court in a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam. On January 31, he had resigned as Chief Minister before his arrest.

Days after his release, JMM legislators met at Hemant Soren’s residence and elected him as the leiglature party leader, paving the way for his return as the chief minister after a five-month hiatus.
