A private helicopter flying to pick up Shiv Sena Deputy Leader Sushma Andhare suddenly crashed on landing in Maharashtra’s Raigad district on Friday, officials said.
As per a video recording shared by Andhare, the chopper was making a landing attempt at an unidentified location. The video shows the private helicopter hovering over the area and suddenly losing control. It is seen tilting and crashing on the ground while plumes of sand and dust rise.
The pilot of the chopper suffered injuries. Andhare was to be picked up for a public rally as part of Lok Sabha election campaign, a police official told news agency PTI.
Citing preliminary findings, he added that the helicopter’s rotor blades got damaged in the incident.
The chopper suffered a malfunction and veered out of control during its landing in Mahad area at around 9:30 am, the police official added.
