The principal of a government-run primary school in Gujarat’s Dahod district was arrested for allegedly killing a six-year-old girl student after she resisted his sexual molestation attempt, police said on Sunday.

The victim’s body was reportedly found inside the school compound in Singvad taluka on Thursday.

According to Superintendent of Police Rajdeepsinh Zala, accused principal, Govind Nat, allegedly smothering the girl after she resisted his attempt to sexually molest her.

“Around 10.20 am on Thursday, the principal, who was passing by in his car, agreed to take the child to school in the vehicle at her mother’s request. Students and teachers told police that the girl did not attend school that day,” Zala told PTI.

The principal initially denied involvement in the girl’s death, claiming he had dropped her off at school after picking her up in his car. However, he later confessed to the police his crime.

“The principal reached the school and parked his car with the girl’s body inside. At 5 pm, he took out the body and dumped it behind the school building. He then planted her school bag and slippers in her classroom,” Zala added.

Technical analysis and the timing of his departure from the school identified him as the prime suspect, leading to his confession after interrogation, Zala stated.

The day after the girl’s body was discovered, the post-mortem report confirmed that she had died from smothering, Zala added.

When the child failed to return home after school hours, her parents and relatives began searching for her and found her unconscious in the compound behind the school building. She was rushed to Limkheda Civil Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
