Amid floods in Gujarat caused by heavy rainfall, the road linking Padana Patiya to Changa Patiya in Jamnagar has been shut to traffic on Thursday (August 29). In a separate incident, a section of a small bridge on Sir PN Road was washed away due to the flooding, disrupting commuter movement.

The Indian Army has deployed six columns to assist with rescue operations in the most severely affected regions of Gujarat. The Gujarat government had requested this military aid on Tuesday for urgent relief efforts across several flood-affected districts. Although rainfall has diminished, it continues to impact various areas of the state.

“In response to the severe flooding in multiple districts, the Indian Army has swiftly mobilised its resources to support the ongoing relief efforts. Following a request from the Gujarat State Government, six columns of the Indian Army are undertaking rescue operations to the worst-affected areas to provide immediate Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR),” the Army said in a statement on Thursday.

Evacuations due to floods
