The most stringent anti-pollution protocol under the Graded Response Action Plan, known as GRAP-4, has sparked countrywide interest, dominating Google search trends since Sunday night. The Delhi government implemented these new measures after air quality levels reached ‘severe plus’ status, with the restrictions kicking in at 8 am on Monday.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi announced on X (formerly Twitter) that, beginning Monday, all schools will transition to online classes, with the exception of students in Classes 10 and 12. She clarified that in light of the implementation of GRAP-4, physical classes will remain suspended until further notice.
Google Trends data reveals a dramatic surge in searches for GRAP-4, skyrocketing by over 100K+, with over 500,000 queries related to the topic.

The GRAP-4 action plan has put in motion the ban on the entry of diesel-powered medium and heavy vehicles (BS-IV and below) into Delhi. This restriction applies except for vehicles transporting essential goods or providing emergency services. Additionally, construction and demolition activities, including work on roads, highways, and flyovers, are now prohibited. However, exceptions have been made for critical infrastructure projects, such as those involving metro rail, hospitals, railways, and defense installations.
These new measures build on existing restrictions from earlier stages of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), such as a ban on dust-intensive construction activities. The aim is to further reduce pollution levels in Delhi, which continues to grapple with severe smog and hazardous air quality. Despite efforts to curb pollution, both Delhi and its surrounding regions are still enveloped in thick smog, prompting the government to impose stricter controls.
With the air quality index (AQI) reaching hazardous levels, these actions are seen as essential steps to protect public health and reduce the impact of air pollution. As pollution levels remain high, the government is urging residents to limit outdoor activities and take necessary precautions to safeguard their health.
