Bollywood actor Ayesha Takia has strongly defended her husband, Abu Farhan Azmi, a restaurateur after Goa police booked him for allegedly getting involved in a public dispute in Candolim. Talking to Instagram, Takia blamed a local group of ‘’local goons’’ for bullying and harassing her husband while claiming that her husband and son were targeted wrongly.

‘’My husband and son were brutally bullied and scared for life as local goons mobbed, threatened and tormented them for hours, ‘’ she wrote, sharing her anger over the incident.

All about the Candolim clash

According to Goa police, they received an emergency call at 11:12 pm on Monday, reporting a dispute at a supermarket in Candolim. When the law enforcement officials reached the scene, they found that two groups were engaged in a verbal and physical spat. One of them included Abu Azmi who is son of Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi, as per a report by PTI.

It was during the fight, that Azmi allegedly stated he has a licensed firearm. However, when questioned, he showed valid documents proving that he was legally allowed to carry the weapon in Goa. As per the report, police officials have brought both the parties to the Calangute police station, where they were given a chance to register complaints  but neither of them was ready to do it.

As per the protocol, police ordered them to undergo medical examination at the District Hospital, but both of them declined to do so. Ayesha later claimed that her family had been unfairly targeted. ‘’The police in return, have filed a complaint against Azmi when he was the one who called 100 for help against a large crowd of almost 150 people, ‘’ she stated.

Legal action taken

Despite both parties having refused to lodge complaints, police have gone ahead with a state-initiated case under section 194 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita for disturbing public peace. Others who have been booked include Joseph Fernandes, Zeon Fernandes and Sham.

Ayesh criticised the case, posting, ‘’See how they intimated and abused the car with my son and driver in it. While a mob tried to drag Farhan from the cop car!’’

She also confirmed they would submit proof to the authorities. ‘’We have video proof and evidence, including CCTV footage, which will be shared with the competent authorities in due course of time. We believe in justice.’’
