Former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia walked out of Tihar jail after 17 months today, 9 August, after being granted bail by the Supreme Court in the cases brought against him by CBI and ED in the excise policy case.

On his bail, Sisodia said, “I want to thank the Supreme Court. They’ve used the power of the constitution and slapped the dictators. I knew that if a dictatorial government would jail someone, the constitution would save them.”

The Supreme Court was inundated with bail petitions due to the refusal to grant bail in straightforward open and shut cases, according to a bench of Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan. This contributed to the court’s enormous backlog.

Manish Sisodia had been imprisoned for 17 months, but the bench granted him release, stating that he has been robbed of his right to prompt justice because the trial has not yet begun. On February 26, 2023, the CBI arrested him on suspicion of committing irregularities in the creation and execution of the excise policy.

Moreover, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested him in the liquor policy case resulting from the CBI FIR on March 9, 2023. He resigned from the Delhi cabinet on February 28, 2023.
