Andhra Pradesh Deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan on Sunday accused YSRCP leader Jagan Mohan Reddy of “threatening IPS officers” and warned of government intervention if any harm comes to them.

Kalyan’s comments were a response to Reddy’s recent statement threatening that a future YSRCP administration would hold police accountable for allegedly harassing opposition members.

“The former CM (Jagan) is threatening police officers. I am saying that if anyone makes these threats to officials and if even a fly falls on them or they suffer a scratch, Jagan will be held responsible. We will take suo motu cognizance of these threats,” Kalyan told reporters during a Forest Department event.

The actor-politician stressed that no officer would be cowed by such threats. He noted that while Jagan remains a former Chief Minister, he is still an elected MLA and should act responsibly.

Kalyan also defended the NDA government, which includes TDP, BJP, and Janasena, as a “competent administration” rather than an “inefficient one.”

Furthermore, the Janasena chief assured that the government would consider providing security to APCC President Y S Sharmila, Jagan’s sister, if she applies, emphasising that her security concerns would be carefully evaluated.

Kalyan proposed the establishment of “neighbourhood defense committees” across Andhra Pradesh, inspired by similar setups in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch region, to enhance women’s safety. “I will discuss this with senior police officials,” he added.

Later on X, Kalyan remarked that “karma” would eventually catch up with offenders, condemning the use of abusive threats, violence, or caste and religious slurs. “In a democracy, we all can differ on many issues, and expressing dissent should be confined to policy,” he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister also cautioned former regime supporters, stating that “muscle power, money, or criminal networks cannot intimidate ordinary citizens of Bharat. My message to all those who spread hate or engage in online abuse: karma will catch up.”
